These earrings give new life to a design that has inspired the minds of coin collectors and numismatists for over 100 years. Mercury dimes, officially known as the “Winged Liberty Head” dime, are a series of United States coins that were minted from 1916 to 1945.

The Mercury dime was introduced in 1916 as part of an effort to redesign several U.S. coin denominations to reflect a more modern, artistic sensibility. The design was made by Adolph A. Weinman, a renowned sculptor and engraver.

The obverse of the coin features the profile of a young woman, often mistaken for the Roman god Mercury due to her resemblance to the god's traditional depictions with wings on his helmet. The design actually represents Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, a symbol of freedom and liberty.

The reverse side of the Mercury dime features a fasces, an ancient Roman symbol of authority and unity, with an olive branch draped around it, representing peace. This design reflects the values of America during World War I and its desire for peace while maintaining its strength.

The Mercury dime design has earned praise for its aesthetic appeal and artistic quality. The overall composition and detail of the coin, have made it a favorite among collectors and numismatists.
